Franklin County on G-DOT Project List For Bridge Repairs

The Georgia Department of Transportation has awarded four construction projects to the Northeast Region totaling $9.7 million.

All of the awards were handed down in August, according to G-DOT spokesperson Katie Strickland.

Of the four, the biggest project is in Elbert County where G-DOT is resurfacing and doing shoulder rehabilitation on SR 72.

The project spans 7.8 miles of SR72 beginning just east of Nicksville Road and extending west of State Route 17.

Strickland said the resurfacing is a $4.7 million investment and was awarded to C&H Paving, Inc. with a completion date of July 2020.

In Franklin County, G-DOT will rehabilitate bridges at various locations along I-85 in Banks and Franklin Counties.

Louis-Company, LLC., crews will maintain bridge decks and replace joints across 25 bridges along the I-85 corridor.

The project has an estimated completion date of August 2021, and represents a $1.6 million investment.

Two other G-DOT road projects include upgrading traffic signals at 13 different intersections in Walton County; a $3 million investment that was awarded to CMES, Inc.

The project has an estimated completion date of February, 2021.

And in Jackson County, crews with E&D Contracting Services, Inc. will do some rehab work on the SR15 bridge over Curry Creek.

The contractor will repair the sidewalk and light posts as well as maintain the bridge’s substructure.

That project represents a $335,194 investment and has an estimated completion date of May 2020.

No word on when these projects will begin.
