Franklin County Municipal Elections Qualifying Continues

Qualifying continues today for city council and mayoral races in Franklin and Hart counties.

All five municipalities in Franklin County have city council races; three have mayoral races.

In Lavonia, two city council seats are open, Posts 1 and 2, currently held by incumbents Don Canady and David Howell.

As of mid-morning Tuesday only incumbent David Howell had qualified.

In Royston, three city council seats and the mayor’s seat are open in that general election. So far, all incumbents, Matt Fields, Larry Bowen and Kenneth Roach have qualified. Also, Kenneth “KJ” Kenndrick has qualified to run for city council.

And Incumbent mayor David Jordan has also qualified.

In Franklin Springs, two city council seats are open and the mayor’s seat. So far, incumbent city councilmen Tom Wilson and Joe Bryant have qualified and incumbent mayor Lee Moore has also qualified.

In the City of Canon, two city council seats are also up for grabs along with the mayor’s job.  As of mid-afternoon Tuesday, only William Morgan has qualified to run for a city council seat.

And in the City of Carnesville, two city council seats are open.  Those are for the seats currently held by incumbents Mike Barrett and Chad Bennett.  So far, Mike Barrett has qualified as of Tuesday morning.

Candidates have until close of business Wednesday to qualify at their respective city hall.

Qualifying fees for all city council and mayoral races in Franklin County is $35.
