Franklin County High School to Host Foothills Education Charter High School Campus

Franklin County schools will soon have an alternative high school campus.

At their work session last week, School Superintendent Chris Forrer told the Board of Education that plans are in the works to have the alternative high school in Carnesville.

Franklin County is partnering with Foothills Education Charter High School to provide a location for high school student dropouts to attend class after hours at Franklin County High School.

Forrer said they are already hiring and plans are to open the alternative high school at the first of the year.

Based in Athens, Foothills Education Charter High School is North-Middle Georgia’s answer to the dropout problem.

According to their Web site, the school offers a unique opportunity to any student who wishes to earn an accredited Georgia High School Diploma.

Foothills Education Charter High School has 16 locations across the North-Middle Georgia region, offering a full range of high school courses in a convenient, flexible, self-paced format.

All Classes are held in the evening so students can work during the day and attend school at night and tuition is free for full-time students.

Forrer said having an on-campus alternative high school will also save the school system money because they will no longer have to bus them to the Mountain Education Center in Eastanollee.

All courses are mastery-based, which means students cannot fail a course.

Additionally, there are no deadlines, so students can take as much or as little time as they need to successfully complete their coursework either online or using texbooks.
