Franklin County Fiscal 2023 Budget To Be Passed Tonight

The Franklin County Board of Commissioners will meet tonight to vote on the final budget for the fiscal year 2023.  On Tuesday, County Commissioners held a budget hearing and work session to discuss the final details of the budget.  According to the County, the proposed FY23 budget expenditures total $24,868,650.  That’s an increase of a little more than $1.8 million from the FY22 budget.  Expected revenues for FY23, which begins July 1, are $25,381,620.

Most of the increases in next year’s budget are going to the Sheriff’s Office and the Franklin County Detention Center. The projected budget for the Sheriff’s Office in FY23 is $3,868,000, an increase of a little more than $700-thousand dollars from the current year.   Meantime the budget for the Franklin County Detention Center has increased from $1,825,567 to $1,994,800.

In 2022, the Board of Commissioners approved pay increases for all County Safety personnel in order to better compete with the pay scales of neighboring counties.  Other department budgets have decreased for FY23 including Administration, Board of Commissioners, and Water administration.  A copy of the proposed FY23 budget has been available to the public since April 4th at the County Commissioners’ office in Carnesville.  The first hearing on the next fiscal budget took place at the Board of Commissioners’ April 4th meeting.  The Board will vote to pass the next fiscal budget at the Regular Board meeting tonight.  By law, the Board must vote to pass the next fiscal budget by June 30.
