Franklin County Deputy Continues Recovery After Chase Last Week

A Franklin County Sheriff’s deputy continues to recover from injuries he received during a foot chase on I-85 last week.

Deputy Antwan McCurry suffered a fractured arm last Wednesday morning while assisting another deputy who was chasing a suspect on I-85 southbound.

It happened about 6a December 30th after the deputy pulled a vehicle for a routine traffic violation.

As the deputy waited for information on the driver and the vehicle, the driver got out of the car on the Interstate near mile marker 160 southbound and ran.

The deputy chased the suspect on foot along 85 in the rain and called for backup.
Deputy McCurry arrived to assist in that chase.

At one point, the suspect ran into lanes of southbound traffic but was eventually captured.
Franklin County Sheriff Stevie Thomas said the suspect was wanted in Dekalb County on an outstanding warrant on charges of aggravated assault on a police officer.

Thomas said Monday, Deputy McCurry is back at work on light desk duty until his arm heals.
