Franklin County Charter School Posts COVID-19 Protocol for New School Year

As students return to class in Franklin County, an updated COVID-19 Protocol has been issued and is available on the Franklin County Schools Facebook page.

The COVID-19 protocol for the 2022-2023 school year remains largely the same as last year except for the guidelines regarding when a student needs to quarantine.

Enhanced cleaning procedures, including the use of electrostatic sprayers, will remain in place in schools and on buses. In addition, classrooms will continue to be equipped with hand sanitizer.

Like last year, COVID-19 vaccinations are not required for employees or students. However, vaccinations are available and accessible at various locations within the community.

If students or staff are diagnosed with COVID-19 they must quarantine for 5 calendar days from the onset date of symptoms or date of a positive test.

The school system is then recommending and encouraging students and staff to wear a mask for days 6-10 after symptoms have improved or are gone. School attendance is expected for days 6-10 if the individual has been fever-free, vomit-free, and dianhea-free for 24 hours without medication.

While at home, students will not be allowed to participate in extracurricular activities or school-sponsored events.

Students residing in homes containing COVID-19 positive individuals will not be required to quarantine unless they, too, develop COVID-19 symptoms.

If a student becomes symptomatic following exposure to COVID-19 positive individuals, they will follow the same procedure as if they had tested positive and quarantine for 5 calendar days, then come back to class but wear a mask for the next five days.

When household members undergo testing for COVID-19, students within the home will not be required to quarantine. Only symptomatic individuals waiting for test results will be required to quarantine.

It is the parents’ responsibility to notify the school administration if their child must quarantine. When the child returns to class, the parents must submit a written note to the teacher or administration and those days of quarantine will be counted as absences.
