Franklin County BOC to Decide on Shelter Funding, Water Tank Tonight

Franklin County’s board of Commissioners expected to vote a two keyissues when they meet for their regular meeting tonight.

The first, is their decision to transfer an extra $14,000 to the Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter budget.

When the Board of Commissioners passed their FY14 budget in June, they had budgeted $56-thousand dollars for the shelter, even though their share of funding comes to $70,080.

The move in June was, however, backed up with a promise to add more funding as tax revenue and other revenue sources became available.  At their work session August 27th, the board made good on that promise by agreeing to kick in the balance of funding.

County commissioner Jeff Jacques said he was able to find the additional funds from personnel.

“I’ve spent a good bit of time with Billy and we have found the $14,080 that would fully fund the animal shelter this year,” Jacques said.  “It came from specifically personnel, by reductions in salaries with office positions and vacant positions for extended durations.”

Jacques then said he had no problem amending the budget to transfer the $14,000 from personnel to the animal shelter.

Commissioner David Strickland noted adding the $14,000 was promised by the board earlier this spring.

In other business tonight, the board is also expected to vote to give one of their unused water tanks to the City of Danielsvile.  Danielsville’s mayor requested the tank at the board’s work session in order to help supply water to its growing school system.

Tonight’s meeting takes place at 6p at the Franklin County Justice Center in Carnesville and is open to the public.
