Franklin County BOC to Begin FY2015 Budget Process

Franklin County commissioners will soon begin work on their 2015 fiscal budget.

County manager John Phillips said before work on the budget begins, he needed to know how the budget process should be handled.

Board chair Thomas Bridges said he liked the way the process evolved last spring in which the board heard from department heads and constitutional officers regarding their respective budgets and what they felt they would need in the new fiscal year.

Commissioner Jeff Jacques agreed, but said he also needed some additional  important documents.

“I know we have just recently changed back software and we haven’t the budget documents we really need to be able to evaluate the current budget as well as the 2015 budget,” Jacques said. “Do we  have a time frame as to when we will be able to have those documents?”

“Elaine and her staff have been working very diligently,” Phillips said. “We really feel like early next month we should have some really good information as far as budget reports. So, that’s what we’re shooting for.”

The board then asked for Phillips and the county clerk to review initial departmental budgets and then submit them to the board for review.

Franklin County’s fiscal year begins July 1.
