Franklin County BOC Adopts Second Amendment Sanctuary Resolution

Franklin County is now a Second Amendment Sanctuary County.

The Franklin County Board of Commissioners uanimously adopted the resolution at their regular meeting Monday night.

Before calling for a vote, Commissioner Ryan Swails likened the efforts at gun control to tyranny.

“Tyranny is a word that’s thrown around quite a bit, and usually it’s tied into rights and freedoms. It ‘s often described as a powerful event that culminates in rights and freedoms being taken away by governments or dictators. But the sad reality is that tyranny is often a process,” Swails explained. “It starts with the manipulation of language. Then, it looks like slight adjustments to existing laws that are already in place. Then, one by one, laws are created to take away bigger chunks of our freedom. Finally, when it’s all said and done you’re in service to the government. And the crazy part is you’re paying them to be caretakers of the freedom you once had.”

Swails also read a number of quotes from our founding fathers on the importance of the right to bear arms.

“That wisdom is carried on today. Some of the things they said about the right to bear arms and what that means to the people still hold true today. I’d like to to share a few things that they said:

“Americans have the right and advantage of being armed, unlike the citizens of other countries whose governments are afraid to trust the people with arms,” – James Madison.

“What country can preserve its liberties if its rulers are warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance. Let them take arms.” – Thomas Jefferson.

“We find ourselves in a place and time when our government is slowly seizing power from citizens. Our founding documents are the only fortified wall to keep governments, legislators, courts and our governors in check from the seizure of our freedoms,” Swails concluded.

Swails then read the Second Amendment Sanctuary Resolution.
