Franklin Co Elections Kicks Off Poll Worker Recruitment Today

The Franklin County Elections office is now accepting applications for poll workers for the November General Election.

Franklin County Elections Clerk Tracie Creason said they are taking applications beginning today.

“We’re holding a recruiting day today,” she said. “We need about 60 poll workers to cover the seven precincts. You can come in and fill out an application or you can go to the website and download an application.”

There is a critical shortage of poll workers nationwide and Franklin County has a need for Advanced Voting, Early Voting, and Election Day poll workers.

Creason said Poll workers must be at least 16 years old, a U.S. citizen, and a resident of Franklin County.  You cannot be a poll worker, however, if you have a family member who is an elected official.

Creason said they are looking for people who are civic-minded and enjoy working with the public.

“They really just have to be people-persons. They’ll be running the poll-pad, taking driver’s licenses, and getting all that information into the computer. And generally helping people through things,” she said. “We will hold a training class probably in the middle of September and they will have to come to that.”

And Creason emphasizes this is a paid position.

“The starting pay is $130 for the poll worker for the day,” she explained. “You would work from 6a until the election closes. Then you have to take down the equipment. So, it would probably be until about 8:30p but it could be later.”

If you would like to apply to be a poll worker in Franklin County in November you can stop by the Elections and Registrations office in Carnesville and pick up an application Monday – Friday between 8:30a and 4:30p.

You can also go to the Franklin County website and print off an application.

Creason said if you can’t make it down there today but would like to sign up, they will be taking applications for the next several weeks.
