Franklin Co Charter System Invites Public to Needs Assessment Meetings

The Franklin County School System is inviting input from the public this week regarding several federal programs.

The first is this evening at 6:30p at the Board of Education offices on Busha Road in Carnesville.

A second public session takes place Thursday at 12:30p also at the Board of Education offices in Carnesville.

This week the school system administration is asking for the public to give their input on each Title Program and IDEA, as well continuing to conduct the system’s Comprehensive Needs Assessment.

IDEA is the federal law that governs how public schools must serve children with disabilities from birth until age 22.

IDEA requires that schools provide a free, appropriate public education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment.

School Superintendent Melanie Burton-Brown said parent involvement and public input is vital to the success of the Franklin County School System.

The School administration also wants to hear from the public on the school system’s ongoing Comprehensive Needs Assessment.

Parents of students and the general public are invited to attend one of two meetings this week.

Burton-Brown said based on information gathered at the two meetings, the school district will develop the Franklin County 2023-2024 Comprehensive Local Education Agency (LEA) Implementation Plan (CLIP).
