Franklin BOE Welcomes New Assistant Superintendent of Operations

The Franklin County Board of Education has formally welcomed the Charter System’s new Assistant Superintendent of Operations.

Carl Dekker was introduced to the Board and citizens this week at the Board’s called meeting Tuesday night by incoming School Superintendent Melanie Burton-Brown.

“He comes with lots of experience. He worked with Georgia Virtual School as one of the program managers during its infancy. He has been an instruction technology district employee, and a secondary curriculum employee. He’s been at the Harris County Middle School for a good many years and now he’s coming to us with lots of experience,” she said.

On his first day Monday, he received a whirlwind tour of the school system, according to Burton-Brown where he was introduced to all of the school principals as well as the members of the school’s transportation department and administration staff.

Dekker told the Board he is excited about his new venture with the Franklin County Charter system.

“I’m from Harris County which is a similar agricultural county. And so many of the things that I think we have shared interests here. In Harris County, we just built a new middle school, a $32-million dollar, thousand-student facility and I was part of that process. And I really look forward to the new elementary school here coming and I’m just really excited to be here in Franklin County and to be part of the team,” Dekker said.

Acting Superintendent Chuck Colquitt exhorted school staff to welcome Dekker with open arms and provide him with whatever he may need as he makes the transition into his new job with the Franklin County Charter system.
