Franklin BOC to Meet Tonight

It should be a fairly light meeting for the Franklin County Board of Commissioners this evening.

The board is expected to review and approve two legal contract renewals, one for landfill services, the other for the County attorney services.

Current county attorney Bubba Samuels’ contract is up December 31st.

At their work session last week, the board agreed to send out requests for bids as recommended by County Manager Beth Thomas.

County Commission Chair Thomas Bridges noted that while the County is pleased with Samuels work he is in favor of allowing other law firms to apply for the job, in the spirit of competition.

“It’s my philosophy to put it out to bid every so often to make sure we get the best bang for our buck and to make sure our citizens are being served well,” Bridges said. “I personally don’t have any problems with the current county attorney, but this is a formality in order to see if we have any alternatives with local attorneys who might want to put in their bid to be our county attorney.”

Commissioner Jeff Jacques is also expecting to see some pricing figures in the RFP this evening.

Last week, Jacques noted the RFP did not contain any fee requirements.

Jacques said knowing a law firm’s fee schedule is important when making comparisons.

In other business tonight, the Board is expected to rule on a rezoning request and will also be discussing a board appointment.

Tonight’s meeting begins at 6p at the Justice Center on SR145 in Carnesville.
