Franklin BOC to Hold Called Meeting Tonight on Millage, UDC

The Franklin County Board of Commissioners will meet this evening for a called session to vote to pass the new county millage rate and also ratify the proposed millage rate for the Franklin County Board of Education, and the Industrial Building Authority.

In unincorporated parts of Franklin County, the proposed millage rate is 9.78 and in the incorporated areas, the proposed millage is 10.84.

In other business this evening, Commissioners will go into executive session to discuss personnel at the start of the session.

County Manager Derrick Turner said Commissioners are expected to appoint an interim County Commissioner for District 3 to fill the unexpired term of Ryan Swails who formally resigned on July 15.

Governor Kemp must sign off on the resignation and either approve the early swearing-in of commissioner-elect for District 3 Elizabeth Busby or appoint an interim commissioner to fill Swails’ unexpired term.

The Board is also expected to discuss the Unified Development Code and could vote to pass it this evening. There will be time for public comment before the Board goes into Executive Session.

The Board is also expected to appoint a new County Clerk to replace Kayla Finger who resigned in June.

Tonight’s meeting takes place at 6p at the Justice Center in Carnesville and is open to the public.

It will also be available on Zoom.
