Franklin BOC to Discuss Next List of Road Resurfacing Projects

Franklin County’s Board of Commissioners will hold a special work session Monday, October 14, to discuss the next list of road resurfacing projects.

The County was recently awarded a $395,000 Local Maintenance and Improvement grant from the Georgia Department of Transportation for road projects, but the county is required to submit a list of projects to the GDOT first.

“LMIG funds could be used to continue resurfacing work that have already been identified,” former County Manager Billy Morse told the board at their work session in September. “You have a full range of options for these funds.”

Noting the time involved in selecting the next group of roads, Commissioner Jeff Jacques has recommended the board hold a special work session to begin compiling the next list.

“We need to dedicate a work session specifically for roads,” Jacques said. “Whether it’s in conjunction with another work session or that we specifically set a separate date because it’s going to take a lot of time to flesh out how we’re going to prioritize where, look at projected costs, etc.”

Jacques also suggested soliciting input from various county departments about which roads need the most urgent attention.

The work session will take place Monday at 6p at the Franklin County Justice Center on SR145 in Carnesville and is open to the public. Franklin County must submit their new list to the GDOT by the end of the calendar year.
