Franklin BOC Meets This Evening

Franklin County Commissioners have a number of items on their agenda when they meet this evening for their April meeting.

Among them, the board will find out if anyone is interested in purchasing some land the County has for sale.

At their work session last week, County Manager Beth Thomas said the parcel in question has been on the County’s books since the late 1980’s.

“Franklin County currently owns a parcel of land on Old Chisholm Trail,” Thomas told the Board. “State law prevents us from selling the land, but I would like the board to consider advertising for sealed bids.”

Thomas said selling the land would put the parcel back on to the tax digest.

In other business, the Board is expected to vote whether to approve leasing space on a radio tower on Gerrard Road.

According to Thomas, the county is considering leasing space on that to Georgia Power.
The Georgia State Patrol had some communication equipment up there, but last year they pulled their equipment down.
That cost the County about $600 a month in rental fees.
Now Georgia Power is interested in putting communication equipment in that same location, and was scheduled to agree to the terms of the contract last month, but the County had not heard from them.
The board is also expected to approve and renew the County’s mutual aid agreement and approve a third party company to help with the hospital bond refinancing.
Tonight’s commission meeting takes place at 6p at the Franklin County Justice Center in Carnesville and is open to the public.
