Franklin BOC Holds First Meeting of the Year Tonight

The Franklin County Board of Commissioners has several items on their agenda when they meet tonight for their first meeting in 2022.

Commissioners are expected to pass an amendment to the alcohol ordinance that was approved by voters in November.

Voters approved four separate resolutions in November that will allow the sale of alcohol and liquor by the drink in the County.

After a survey of citizens last spring showing overwhelming support for the sale of alcohol in the County, the Board voted to put the resolutions before the voters who passed all four by a wide margin.

Now that amendment must be approved by the Commissioners.

In other business, the Board is expected to discuss the need for Ethics training days, appoint a county attorney and county clerk for another year and will go into executive session to discuss personnel and litigation.

Tonight’s meeting takes place at 6p at the Justice Center in Carnesville but is also available via Zoom.

Meantime, the City of Lavonia’s regular City Council meeting, normally scheduled for the first Monday of the month will take place Tuesday evening instead due to Monday being the official New Year’s holiday.

And the City of Royston’s City Council will hold a called session Tuesday evening at 6:30p.
