Franklin BOC Approves LMIG Bids

Franklin County approves two contacts for road work in the County.

Monday night, the Franklin County Commission voted on two separate contracts – one for road paving and one for culvert repair.

The contracts will be funded under the Georgia Department of Transportation’s Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant or LMIG.

Franklin County Engineer John Phillips told the commissioners that the first contract will go towards paving five roads.

“The low bid was submitted by Stratton & Sons Construction at a bid of $440,025.91. We reviewed the bids and we recommend an award to Stratton & Sons for this project.”

The roads to be paved or resurfaced include Lankford Road, Hillshore Road, Shackleford Road, Normandy Trail, and High Road.

The second contract was for two culverts in the county to be repaired.

Phillips explained the repairs are needed.

“Two concrete box culverts have been identified by the Georgia Department of Transportation in their Bridge Inspection Report as needing wing walls reconstructed,” Phillips said. “We accepted bids for this project. The low bid was submitted by Georgia Bridge & Concrete in the amount of $108,000.”

After hearing from Phillips, the Board voted unanimously to approve both bids.

Phillips said work on both projects is expected to begin in the coming weeks.
