Franklin BOC Approves Next LMIG Projects

A new local maintenance improvement grant or LMIG for 2015 from the Georgia Department of Transportation has been approved for Franklin County.

At their regular meeting Monday evening, county manager John Phillips said the county will match the funding.

“Based on our formula amount, we will receive $393,518.60 through the program. We are required to provide a 30% match to that. So, we’re looking for around $563,000,” Phillips told the Board.

Phillips said the County will use the money to resurface 11 roads.

“The staff has identified a list of potential roads that would all be asphalt resurfacing, deep base patching, leveling and striping. Of course, we can do any type of road project that meets DOT specifications and that we have right of way for and that works out to our funding estimates,” he said.

Phillips said Monday the LMIG funding is expected after the first of the year.

He said work on the 11 roads should begin in the spring and is expected to be completed by the end of 2015.

In other business Monday, the board of Commissioners also approved the next roads in the ongoing county water line expansion.

17 roads are on the current list and two water lines are already completed.

Phillips said the next project on the list is Hale Crossing Road to SR174 and SR174 to Roach Road.

After hearing from Phillips, the board voted unanimously to approve the next water line project.
