Former Athens-Clarke County Police Officer Facing Charges

A former Athens-Clarke County Police officer is behind bars, charged with aggravated assault and violating his oath of office.

On Tuesday, the GBI Athens office issued a release announcing they had arrested 46-year old Jonathan Fraser of Athens.

His arrest comes from a June 13, 2015 incident on West Broad Street in Athens.

According to GBI investigators, Fraser responded to that location and subsequently arrested Michael Roquet, 19, of Athens.

On June 19, 2015, the GBI was requested by Athens-Clarke County Police Department Interim Chief of Police Carter Greene to investigate the incident.

After a thorough investigation, it was determined that Fraser had committed aggravated assault and violated his oath as a public officer.

Fraser had been employed at the police department for seventeen years and was terminated prior to the criminal investigation’s conclusion.

Fraser has been charged with one (1) count of Aggravated Assault and (1) count of Violation of Oath by a Public Officer, both of which are felonies.

Fraser turned himself in to the Clarke County Jail after he was made aware that warrants for his arrest were obtained.
