Former Acting Fr. Co. School Superintendent Colquitt Says Formal Good-Bye

As Burton-Brown takes over, Chuck Colquitt, who has served as Acting School Superintendent since last fall, is retiring.

Colquitt has been serving as the Acting School Superintendent since last fall when it was learned late Superintendent Chris Forrer was not returning to work due to illness.

Forrer later passed away in November after a long battle with cancer.

Last Thursday’s called Board of Education meeting was Colquitt’s last and he took the opportunity to thank the Board and school administration and staff for their support.

“I would like to thank the Board, the Central Office staff and the faculty and staff at each school, the Franklin County community, and last but not least the reason we’re here the Franklin County students,” he said. “I appreciate all their support. .We have had a challenging year this year and I think we did a pretty good job and carried forward the path that Mr. Forrer would have liked. It has been an honor and pleasure to lead such a wonderful school system. I appreciate everybody.”

Earlier this month, the Board approved Colquitt’s retirement.

At the time, he said that as the Acting Superintendent, he has tried to continue the goals and agendas set forth by Forrer.

Board Chair Robin Cato thanked him for his willingness to step into the breach when Forrer could no longer serve.

Before becoming Acting School Superintendent, Colquitt served as the Assistant School Superintendent of Operations.

He is being succeeded in that role by Carl Dekker who was hired by the Board earlier this year.
