Flu Clinics Begin Monday in Franklin County Schools

The Franklin County Health Department urges parents to protect their children from influenza by getting them immunized.

Flu clinics at all schools begin next week.

“For convenience vaccinations will be available at their school,” said Franklin County Health Department Nurse Manager Angie Fowler. “Both types of vaccine – nasal spray and the (injectable) flu shot – will be available for students. Parents will be required to complete a consent form for their child and a health questionnaire to determine which type of vaccine their child will receive. The form must be completed and signed by the parent or legal guardian and returned to the school one week before the date of the clinic at that particular school.”

The schedule is as follows:

  •         October 6       Royston Elementary
  •         October 8       Carnesville Elementary Intermediate
  •        October 15      Carnesville Elementary Primary
  •        October 17      Franklin County Middle School
  •        October 23      Franklin County High School

        October 24      Lavonia Elementary

Fowler said parents who have insurance, can have their insurance provider can be charged.  They should attach a copy of their insurance card to the signed consent form.

Some vaccinations will begin in two phases, Fowler said.

Phase 1 — The student child will be given the first dose the day of the school clinic.  Children through age 8 may need a second dose approximately one month after the first dose.  We will provide the second dose during Phase 2.

Anyone with questions can to contact the school nurse or your healthcare provider regarding the flu vaccine.

Participation and receipt of the influenza vaccine through this program is completely voluntary.
