First Lavonia Citizens Police Academy Students to Graduate Tonight

Lavonia Citizens who took part in the first Citizens Police Academy will receive their certificates this evening in a special graduation ceremony.

Classes met once a week beginning March 12. Lavonia Police Chief Shane Edmisten said this first Academy was a success

Chief Edmisten said the Citizens Police Academy was designed to give ordinary citizens a first-hand look into what it’s like to be a police officer and to hopefully realize that his officers are people just like them who desire to serve and protect their community.

Edmisten noted the Citizens Police Academy is just one of many efforts by his department to build relationships with the community.

The Chief hopes the relationships being developed between officers and citizens, will also help officers keep Lavonia safe from crime.

Edmisten said another Citizens Academy will be coming again later this year.

Once the next Citizens Police Academy is announced WLHR News will bring you the details.

Anyone with questions can contact Chief Edmisten at the Lavonia Police Department at 706-356-4848.
