First Babies of 2016 Welcomed at St. Mary’s Sacred Heart and Stephens Co Hospital

St. Mary’s Sacred Heart Hospital in Lavonia has welcomed its first baby of the new year.

On Sunday, baby Candalaria Jolena Lomax was welcomed into the world by her parents, Candaria Burns and Joshua Lomax of Bowersville.

Little Candalaria weighed in at 5lbs 8oz and was 17 inches long.

In Stephens county, the first baby of the new year at Stephens County Hospital took a little longer to get here.

Jolanni Angel Colon-Torres was born on Tuesday night at 10:36 pm. at Stephens County Hospital.

He weighed in at 7lbs 4 oz and is 20 inches long.

The proud parents are Nona Worbs and Emanuel Colon-Torres of Toccoa.

“It feels pretty good,” said Colon-Torres. “It was shocking having the New Year’s Baby. I did not think of it.”
“She (the nurse) told me in the middle of the night and I woke him up and was like, ‘Can you believe this?’,” said Worbs.
Mom went on to say that she appreciates everyone at Stephens County Hospital.
“It has been lovely,” said Worbs. “The nurses and doctors and everyone have just been amazing.”
Jolanni has an older brother, Emanuel Colon-Torres, Jr., who is 14 months old.

The maternal grandparent is Vicki Hansgen of Springfield, Missouri and the paternal grandparents are Mayra and Jose Torres of Carnesville.

The attending physicians were Dr. Brian Raybon and Ashley Harris, CNM and the attending pediatrician was Dr. Angela Reese.

The mom’s nurse was Debbie Knickerbocker, RN and the baby’s nurse was Victoria Jordan, RN.

For having the new year’s baby, the parents received a gift basket from the Stephens County Hospital Auxiliary.
