First Annual Jeep Fest Set for Saturday in Downtown Lavonia

The First Annual JeepPet Fest is scheduled for Saturday, August 12th in downtown Lavonia from 9a to 2p.

Jeep fans from across our area are encouraged to come together in downtown Lavonia and celebrate the love of Jeeps and Pets.

Put on by the Lavonia Chamber of Commerce, Chamber Executive Director Genie Moore said the idea for the event came as the result of a brainstorming session with chamber members.

“We decided we wanted to give back over and above to the community. So we decided to come up with several events to have throughout the remainder of this year,” Moore explained. “The first event we’re going to have is the JeepPet Fest. It’s August 12 from 9a-2p and is being sponsored by the Lavonia Chamber, Ed Murdock Superstore, Vintage Owl, Peachy Paws, and Hometown Neighbors. There’ll be fun, food, vendors, music, pet adoptions, and a silent auction at the Gazebo.”

Ed Murdock Superstore will have new Jeeps on display, along with a vintage military Jeep.

In addition to getting to see a lot of new and vintage Jeeps, Ed Murdock is sponsoring an All-Jeep Parade through Lavonia that will begin at City Hall and end at Ace Hardware.

Parade and entry sign-ups are between 8 am and 9:30 am at the gazebo that Saturday morning and the parade will start at 10a.

Moore is also encouraging all Jeep owners participating to decorate their Jeeps for a chance to win a prize. Extra ducks can be purchased for $1 each.

“The registration for the Jeeps is $25 per Jeep. Everybody gets a duckie. Jeepers love duckies. So come get your duckie and you will have the ability to win up to $100 for the best-dressed Jeep. There is a $50 prize for the best-decorated Jeep. So bring your Jeep. Decorated however you want to and you will go into a contest to win $50.”

She said money raised from the JeepPet Fest will go to benefit the Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter.

“We encourage everyone to bring their pet because the proceeds will go to benefit the Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter,” Moore said. “There’s a $10 fee to enter your pet into a costume contest. $10 and a donation from the Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter from their Wish List enters your pet,” she said.

The Shelter will have a booth at the JeepFest with photos of those dogs and cats available for adoption.

That Wish List is on the Lavonia Chamber Facebook Page and on the Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter Facebook page. Moore said you don’t have to be a Jeep owner or a pet owner to attend.

Moore tells WLHR News they hope to make the JeepPet Fest an annual event.
