First Annual Hart County Public Safety Day Planned for Saturday

Hart County emergency workers will gather Saturday in downtown Hartwell for their first annual Hart County Public Safety Day.

Public Safety Day will take place from 10a to 3p in the old Ingles Parking Lot in Hartwell.

The brainchild of members of the Hart County Fire Department, Fire Chief Jerry Byrum said the purpose of the event is public awareness.

“We just want to get the public to come down and meet all the different departments in the county and some of the state departments also,” he said. “It’s just way to get them down so we can interact and interact with them and see all of the different kinds of equipment we have.’

Byrum says there are more safety personnel and agencies in Hart County than most people realize and the event Saturday will give citizens an opportunity to meet members of those agencies first hand.

“There are a lot of agencies here and we all work together real well and we want everybody to know that and come on out and meet us and get to know us,” he said.

Some of those agencies planning to be present include the Hart County Fire Department, Hartwell Fire Department, Hart County Sheriff’s office, Hartwell Police, Hart County EMS, Georgia Forestry, LifeNet, and the Department of Natural Resources.

Byrum said a number of activities are planned for both adults and children.

“The fire department will be doing some extracation demonstrations, we will have some bouncy houses for kids and a smoke house,” Byrum said. “We’re going to have some rapid fire exhibits as well.”

The Hart County Sheriff’s office will also have their Humvee and other vehicles on display as well.

Again, the Hart County Public Safety Day takes place Saturday from 10a to 3p in the old Ingles parking lot in downtown Hartwell.
