Fielding Sentencing Set for Today

Sentencing is expected today in Superior Court in Carnesville for an Iva, SC man convicted of murder in the beating death of an elderly Lavonia man.

The judge in the case, Superior Court Judge John Bailey will hand down the sentence for 30-year old Caleb Brandon Fielding.

In early November, Fielding was found guilty by a Franklin County Superior Court jury  of multiple counts of murder in the death of 87-year old Jack Vaughn.

On the afternoon of October 20, 2011 Fielding came to the door of Jack and Dorothy Vaughn on Bartson St. in Lavonia and demanded  their prescription drugs.

At his trial last fall, Jack Vaughn’s wife testified Fielding beat her husband when he refused to hand over the drugs and then attacked her as she tried to call 911 for help.

Jack Vaughn died later at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Dorothy Vaughn was able to escape the house by rolling on the ground into the grass and then getting help from neighbors.

After a week of testimony, the jury found Fielding guilty of malice murder, felony murder/aggravated assault, felony murder/armed robbery, aggravated assault, armed robbery, burglary and aggravated battery with special findings.

Fielding is being held  in the Franklin County Detention Center.
