FCA Baseball Game Tonight

Some of the best high school baseball players from both Georgia and South Carolina are getting ready for an evening of fellowship and fun.  It’s the Georgia-South Carolina FCA High School Baseball Classic.  The game will take place tonight at Emmanuel College’s Tommy Carey Stadium.  Chad Posey is the area representative for The Lake Hartwell Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA).  He says not only is the game a time for players from rival schools to come together, but it’s a special night to recognize these athletes for their accomplishments on and off the field.

“Kids that took care of business on the field.  But they also walked with integrity, serving, teamwork, and excellence, which are our four core values within the ministry of FCA.  One, it’s to give the guys another opportunity of coming together and playing.  But is gives us the opportunity to serve them, share the gospel.  And if you are a baseball person, it’s a really fun day to be a part of, to be at the ballpark,” Posey says.

Posey says the players, all graduating seniors, were chosen by their high school baseball coaches.  This year, each team will have 17 players.  Posey says six Georgia counties are represented in tonight’s contest . . .Franklin, Hart, Madison, Elbert, Oglethorpe, and Lincoln.  Team Georgia will be led by Elbert County High School head coach Lance Ingram

Posey says the first two games were played in 2018 and 2019, but then all future games were put on hold for a few years due to COVID.  So tonight makes the third time that Team Georgia and Team South Carolina will compete.  Team South Carolina leads the series 2-0.

Again, the Georgia-South Carolina FCA High School Baseball Classic will begin this afternoon at 5:00 with a homerun derby contest.  The first pitch is at 7.  Chick-Fil-A and KONA Ice will provide the concessions.  Tickets are $10 for adults.  Kids 5 and under get in free.  Posey says once all operating costs from the game are taken care of, any remaining proceeds will go towards scholarships for various FCA Camps.

If you cannot make it to the game, Lake Hartwell Radio will air the game both on-air and online at www.921wlhr.com.  Legendary sports broadcaster Ted Taylor along with Ken Brady from our sister station WNEG radio will have the call of the game.  Airtime will be at 6:40pm.
