Erwin claims victory, Gasaway refuses to concede

WLHR reported after the mandated rerun election that the race for House District 28 was still up for grabs with the two candidates almost even, separated by just three votes. At time provisional and absentee ballots remained to be counted.

Incumbent Dan Gasaway is vying against Challenger Chris Erwin. Both are Repubicans and with no Democrat opponents, the winner takes the seat.

Provisional ballots and absentee ballots have now been counted and the two are now separated by just two votes with Ewin claiming the victory, but his opponent refusing to concede.

The repeat election was court ordered due to the fact dozens of voters received ballots for the wrong districts in the May GOP primary.

While Erwin has declared victory and said he’s ready to “put campaign politics behind us,” Gasaway is considering a court challenge, questioning whether Habersham County officials should have accepted two of the provisional ballots.

Gasaway said that he can prove the count is not accurate. His attorney is in the process of considering a challenge to the election, stating his client just wants a fair election.
