The Emmanuel College Swim team is gearing up for its next big meet later this month.

Last month, the Women’s swimming team competed at the 19th annual Sewanee Invitational in Sewanee, TN and came out as the overal winners, putting them at 10-0 for the season.

And the Lady Lions broke two records, the 200 fly and the 200 free style.

The men’s team also won their overall two-day event and are now 9-0.

The Lions finished the meet winning a total of 18 out of 21 events and set 16 meet records, finishing 1st overall.

The Lions are in first place with 466 points, second Sewanee with 378 points, third Montevallo with 212, fourth SGSC with 147.

A 2-day meet, Emmanuel competed against SGSC, Sewanee, LaGrange, and Montevallo.

Head Coach Alan Gilchrest said he credits the team’s success is the teams depth.

Next up, the Lions Swim Team heads to Charlotte, NC for the Fall Frenzy Invite November 22-24.

Gilchrest said the team is now preparing to meet their toughest competitor.

“Certainly by far, Queens University is going to be our toughest competitor,” he said. “They have been the number one Division II Champions for the last five years- the men and the women. That’s why we decided to go to this event because it’s going to be bigger, faster, and tougher, and we need that as a program to compete. So, we’re excited about that.”

Much of that preparation, Gilchrest said will be out of the water work outs and well as swimming practice.
