Driver in I-85 Tractor-Trailer Wreck Identified

Overturned tractor-trailer burst into flames on I-85 SB early Wednesday morning

Overturned tractor-trailer burst into flames on I-85 SB on the morning of October 29.

The driver of the 18-wheeler killed in a wreck on I-85 last week has been identified.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, he is identified as 55-year old Roger Wayne Hughes of Fayetteville, GA.

Hughes died last Wednesday, October 29th on I-85 near mile marker 172 in Franklin County.

At about 6a that morning, Hughes was pulling a double tractor-trailor southbound on the Interstate when it suddenly left the road, went up an embankment into some trees, flipped and burst into flames.

An autopsy to determine the cause of death has not been released and it is still not known if Hughes died as the result of the accident itself, according to State Patrol Trooper Fleming.

The wreck backed up traffic on I-85 for most of the day until firefighters from three fire stations were able to put the fire out and crews could remove the wreckage.

Funeral services for Hughes were held last Sunday in Fayetteville.
