Driver in Fatal I-85 Wreck Indentified

We now know the name of the North Carolina man killed earlier this week in a wreck on I-85.

He is identified as 47-year old Floyd McQueen of Middlesex, NC.

It happened Monday afternoon on I-85 Southbound near mile marker 167.

Georgia State Patrol Hartwell Post Trooper Richard Fleming said McQueen was the driver of an 18-wheeler traveling southbound when it ran off the right side of the road.

The tractor-trailer struck a group of trees at mile marker 167 and trapped McQueen who had to be extricated.

He was later pronounced dead at St. Mary’s Sacred Heart Hospital in Lavonia.

It’s not clear why the driver ran off the road, nor whether his death was the result of the accident.

By 8p Monday evening, traffic was still backed up to Exit 173 and beyond because the tractor-trailer had spilled 42,000 pounds of raw chicken when it wrecked.
