Driver in Bizarre Fatal Wreck Will Not Be Charged, GSP Says

Walmart wreckNo charges will be filed against the driver involved in a fatal wreck in Wal-mart parking lot in Hartwell last week.

According to Frank Young, Georgia State Patrol Public Information officer, a  1995 Lincoln Towncar was backing out of the parking space at an accelerated speed.

The vehicle spun completely around and its back end rested on top of the hood of a 2002 Nissan Altima parked parallel to it.

Young tells WLHR News, due to the impact from the Lincoln, the Nissan hit a Chevrolet Cobalt parked parallel to it.

The passenger of the Lincoln, identified as 50-year old Shelley M. Bowman, of Iva, SC,  was attempting to enter the car, but ended up on the ground after impact with the Nissan.

According to the Georgia State Patrol incident report, Bowman was dragged under the Towncar as it spun completely around before hitting a curb and landing on top of the Nissan.

Bowman later died from her injuries at Ty Cobb Regional Medical Center .  The driver of the Lincoln is identified as Linda F. Durham, age 72 from Iva, SC.   Durham was not injured.
