Driver Charged in January Fatal Wreck

Charges have been filed against the driver involved in a wreck earlier this year that killed two Franklin County High School seniors.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, 18-year old Samuel Parten of Canon has been charged with two counts of homicide by vehicle in the first degree, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane and driving too fast for conditions.

The accident happened January 21st on Jackson Bridge Road.

The vehicle was traveling west on Jackson Bridge Road when the driver hit a curve and lost control,” Whitworth said late Wednesday afternoon. “The vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway, traveled down an embankment and hit a tree. Parten’s two passengers, 17-year old Timothy Hartman of Canon, and 17-year old Maleke Moon of Canon, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Parten was injured and treated at a local hospital.  He later turned himself in to authorities and was released on bond.
