Drive-Thru Flu Vaccine Clinics Today

With COVID-19 making the headlines during the past 2 years or so, these days we
often forget about another major virus that’s been around for a long time. That’s
influenza, better known as the flu. With cold and flu season approaching, District 2
Public Health is encouraging everyone who can to get flu shots.

And If you have not taken advantage of the District 2 Public Health drive-thru flu clinics, you’ll have some more chances today.

The Hart County Health Department will hold a drive-thru flu vaccine clinic in the
parking lot of Hartwell First Methodist Church this Tuesday, October 4, from 11:00am
– 6:00pm.

The Franklin County Health Department will hold their drive-thru flu vaccine clinic at
the Royston Housing Authority this Tuesday, October 4, from 9:00am to 2:00pm.

Another drive-through flu clinic will be held at the Franklin County Health Department
on Thursday, October 20, from 10:00am to 4:00pm.

The drive-through flu clinics allow people to stay in their vehicles while receiving their
flu vaccine.  According to the CDC, everyone 6 months and older should get a flu shot, it is
especially important for those 55 years old and older, and persons with certain
medical conditions who may experience more severe illness from the flu virus.
This flu season, the quadrivalent vaccine (four-in-one) will serve as the regular flu
vaccine and will protect against four different strains of flu, both A and B strains of
the influenza viruses.  The high-dose vaccine, which is also a quadrivalent vaccine, will be available for persons 65 and older.

The flu vaccine is no cost to anyone who has Medicare, Medicaid, and most
commercial insurances.  If an individual chooses to pay out of pocket, the cost is $30 for the regular flu vaccine and $66 for the high dose.  Individuals who would like to receive their flu shot at drive-thru clinics must be 18 years old and older. District 2 Public Health encourages residents to wear masks.
