District 2 Public Health Offering Free HIV Testing Today on National HIV Testing Day

Today is National HIV Testing Day, and each year public health observes the day to emphasize and encourage HIV testing.

This year’s theme is “HIV Testing is Self-care.”

Spokeswoman Natasha Young said it’s important people get tested so they know their HIV status and take steps to live a long and healthy life.

But the only way to know for sure whether a person has HIV is to get tested.  The goal is to reduce new HIV infections in the U.S. by 90 percent by the year 2030.

Young said all District 2 Public Health departments will participate in National HIV Testing Day on the 27th.

HIV testing today will be completely FREE, easy, fast, and confidential.  Anyone ages 13 to 64 years old should get tested at least once in their life.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, the number of new HIV diagnoses was highest among people aged 25 to 34 years old.
