Distribution Center in the Plans for 80 Acres on Gerrard Road

The Lavonia City Council has approved the first reading of zoning request for 80 acres on Gerrard Road.

At Monday night’s city council meeting, Ed Fickey, with the Wakefield Group, is representing owner and seller Michael Haley.

Haley is requesting the property be rezoned B-3 heavy industrial but the plan is to put in a large distribution center according to Fickey.

Fickey noted the property is large enough that more than one distribution center or light industrial business could be put on the property.

At the Planning and Zoning Board’s meeting Monday before the City council meeting, they voted to recommend approval of the rezoning request with the requirement that the property only be used for light industrial businesses similar to what is already on Gerrard Road.

After hearing from Fickey the Council voted unanimously to approve the first reading of the rezoning request.

In other business, the Council also approved the second reading of a conditional use request by Paul Patel to build a Hilton Hotel on property next to the Cracker Barrel on Ross Place.
