Deadline to Apply for Students of Integrity Scholarship Ends Feb. 28

The Better Business Bureau’s Students of Integrity scholarship application deadline is approaching soon.

Students who are interested in applying need to have their applications into the BBB Atlanta office by 11:59p Monday, Feb. 28.

The BBB Students of Integrity Scholarship is a unique video-based submission that awards high school seniors up to $5,000 who demonstrate a superior understanding of ethics. High school seniors planning to attend university, college, or technical college are eligible to apply.

Anita Harris is the Community Engagement Executive for the Better Business Bureau in Atlanta.

Harris said, unlike most scholarships, the BBB Integrity scholarship for high school seniors does not focus on academic success.

“What’s really cool about the scholarship is that as opposed to being academically based like so many of them are, this is based on the character and the integrity of the student,” she said. “And the money goes directly to the student to use for whatever they need, such as books, etc. One student used the money to buy a car so they could get to and from school.”

Harris said the scholarships will be awarded directly to the winners to assist with their post-high school education and to use however they choose.

To be eligible for this award, the student must be a graduating high school senior in spring 2022 and attend high school in one of 47 North Georgia counties covered by the Better Business Bureau’s metro Atlanta office, which includes Franklin, Hart, Stephens, Banks, Elbert, and Madison counties.

Harris said to be considered students must fill out an entry form and make their own video that demonstrates a superior understanding of ethics.

“We want them to tell us how they invest in their community and how they give back. We also want them to tell us examples of an ethical dilemma they faced and how they dealt with that. We’re looking for the character traits that the student exhibits. So how do you deal with those challenges that you’re going to face as a young adult? We’re all going to face them but how you choose to deal with them is what the judges are looking for in the applications they receive,” she said.

Students must also tell the judges in that video a description of their community involvement, volunteer activities, awards, and honors.

Additionally, they must submit a separate video recommendation from a principal, counselor, teacher, or mentor.

Judges will award scholarships to graduating high school seniors with the highest-scoring video submission.
