Davidson Indicted in Franklin County

Alton DavisonA Demorest man who led Franklin and Stephens County authorities on a high-speed chase in February through two counties has been indicted by the Franklin County Grand Jury.

Alton Lee Davidson faces multiple charges in three counties, but in Franklin County he has been indicted on eight different counts, including fleeing and attempting to elude, aggravated assault on a peace officer, hit and run, and interference with government property.

Those charges stem from the February 29th incident which Franklin County Sheriff Steve Thomas said began in the Martin area.

“Franklin County deputies attempted to assist Stephens County deputies in a chase which began in Stephens County,” Thomas said. “Stephens County called the chase off in the Martin area around the Greater Hope Rd area. Franklin County deputies met what was believed to be the vehicle in the Brown Road-Harvest Creek area.”

That’s where, Thomas said the deputies attempted to pull the suspect over and the chase began again. Thomas said during the chase, the suspect rammed a Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputy’s cruiser.

“The vehicle spun out and attempted to regain the lane on the highway and struck one of the Franklin County deputies head on,” Thomas said. “It proceeded up Brown Rd to Highway 145 Toms Creek. It then proceeded north towards Stephens County and turned right on Sheriff Road.”

At that point, Stephens County Sheriff’s deputies rejoined the chase running speeds at times of 90 miles an hour, according to Thomas.

He said Davidson then crossed Greater Hope Road to Bruce Road where deputies were able put the suspect’s vehicle into a ditch.

Davidson tried to run on foot, but was caught and arrested.

At the time of his arrest, Davidson had an outstanding warrants out of Habersham County for aggravated assault on two women.

He also faces charges in Stephens County in connection with the high-speed chase.

Davidson was recently returned to Habersham County to face the aggravated assault charges there.
