Current GED Test to Expire December 31st

Officials with the Georgia Office of Adult Education and the state’s 46 GED® testing centers are urging students to finish the current version of the GED test before it expires at the end of 2013.

The version used now will be replaced nationally with a new GED test on January 2, 2014.  Those who have taken the current GED test, but not passed all five parts, have until the end of the year to pass.

“The GED test helps adults earn a high school equivalency credential as well as open doors to college and better job opportunities,” said Latanya Overby, the TCSG director of GED testing for adult education. “We have a large number of Georgians who have not completed the test so we want to be sure that everyone is aware of this deadline. GED test-takers must act now to finish and pass before the current test expires.”

All partially-completed tests and scores will expire at the end of the year, meaning those students who do not act now will have to start completely over again in 2014 with the new GED test in order to receive their high school equivalency credential.

The changes set for next year are part of an update by the national GED Testing Service in Washington, D.C.

The GED test is administered in Georgia by the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) Office of Adult Education.

The cost to take the five-part GED test is $160.

Students can take advantage of Georgia’s free test preparation classes and people who cannot afford the expense of the test may be eligible for financial assistance.
