Stephens County Administrator Phyllis Ayers has released the county’s plan for the upcoming November 8th election following the recent resignation of Election Supervisor Krista Terry.

Ayers announced on Thursday that a representative from the Secretary of State’s Office came up on Thursday, and will again today, to train Ayers, Fredda Wheeler who serves on the Board of Elections and Registration for Stephens County, and Christian Hamilton the new county administrator.

She says Dominion will be on-site the day before, the day of, the day after, and the Monday following the election.

Also, the county Building and Grounds Department along with some Public Works employees will be relocating the equipment for election day as they have in the past.

Additionally, the job advertisement for the Election Supervisor position will be advertised starting next week and will run for two weeks.

Ayers says they (Wheeler, Hamilton, and Ayers) have started each morning by meeting with the poll workers.

“I cannot say enough about these poll workers! We have had barely a bump in the road, their attitudes have been wonderful, and they are eager to get each day started,” Ayers said.

Terry tendered her resignation on Tuesday, October 18.

The Board of Elections and Registration for Stephens County will continue to act as the Election Superintendent until the position can be filled.

Board of Elections and Registration for Stephens County Chair Sean Black said Terry did a phenomenal job as the election supervisor. But better opportunities and being inundated by constant harassment ultimately forced her to leave her post.

He says the county and the Elections Board will ensure that the General Election moves forward.
