Corps Opens Two Campgrounds on Hartwell Lake for Winter Camping

Hartwell LakeThe U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Savannah District will open two campgrounds around Lake Hartwell for winter camping.

Beginning today, Watsadler Campground in Hartwell, Georgia, and Twin Lakes Campground in Pendleton, South Carolina, will have designated areas that will be open for the winter months.

Each campground features electric and water hook-ups, restrooms with showers, dump stations, boat ramps, playgrounds, and staffed entrance gates.

“Many people enjoy the cooler temperatures that we have this time of year and the majority of the campsites that are open over the winter even come with a lake view,” said Natural Resource Specialist Tanya Grant. “Another benefit she said is that the campgrounds also tend to be less crowded in the fall and winter, especially on weekdays.”

Howver, the Corps recommends campsite reservations up to six months in advance through the National Recreation Reservation Service online at www.Recreation.gov or toll-free at 877-444-6777.
