Corps Closes or Restricts Camping and Day-Use Areas

Watsadler and other Corps campgrounds are closed until further notice

Just as the weather is getting warm, the coronavirus is putting a damper on camping and day-use availability at Corps operated campgrounds.

Officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Savannah District have closed or restricted all camping and campsites and day-use area availability at its Savannah River reservoirs in order to limit interpersonal contact during the COVID19 pandemic.

Corps spokesman Billy Birdwell says effective immediately all visitor centers are closed to the public until further notice.

Birdwell said all campgrounds at Hartwell Lake such as Watsadler Campground and Twin Lakes Campgrounds which are typically open year-round, are also closed until further notice.

Birdwell emphasized, however, if you have already made a reservation for any campground on Hartwell Lake, your money will be refunded.

However, Bridwell said all boat ramps are remaining open.

For those who live on the lake, Birdwell said there are some changes to shoreline management in light of the coronavirus.
