Construction, Renovations Going On Around 173 Interchange in Lavonia

Construction is moving forward in several Lavonia locations around the 173 interchange on SR17.

This week, construction crews began laying the foundations for two businesses and two fast food restaurants are in the process of renovating or refitting their buildings.

“We’re really excited about what’s going on at the Interchange,” said Lavonia City Manager Gary Fesperman. “A lot of work is going on and whenever you see that you know that things are good at the Interstate.”

This week, Hardee’s began renovations on its building.   Also, Dairy Queen has leased the former Wendy’s store and is in the process of retrofitting it.

Two more projects, construction of the Hampton Inn and a strip office mall are going in behind  Hill’s Exxon after several years of slow economic growth.

Fesperman said it’s good to see signs of growth around the I-85 interchange.

“They’ve poured the slab for the new Hampton Inn and they almost have the footers ready to pour the slab on the office strip mall,” Fesperman said. “So, this is the first real flurry of activity we’ve had in that area in quite some time and the city is real excited about it.”

Both the Hardee’s and Dairy Queen projects are expected to be completed and open for business by the end of November.  The Hampton Inn is expected to open in mid- late 2014. No word on when the office strip mall will be completed.
