Community Collaborative Sponsoring Health Walk Saturday in Lavonia

It’s time to get healthy.

That’s the mantra of the Franklin County Collaborative Health and Wellness Strategy Team.  They are on a year long mission to get people off the couch and out walking.

This Saturday, the group is holding the second of five community health walks in Franklin County – this one is taking place in downtown Lavonia.

Coordinator and Collaborative director Ken Watkins says the walk will start Saturday morning at the Gazebo in downtown Lavonia.

“We will walk from the Gazebo down Main St. to the Dill’s Shopping Center and back again,” Watkins said. “It’s about a mile and a half total. This is just to highlight the benefits of living a healthier life style and how walking can reduce cholesterol, and is good for your heart. It’s also good for people with other problems, such as diabetes.”

The walk is free and open to anyone who wants to get out and walk.  Registration takes place early Saturday at 7a and the walk begins at 7:30a.   Afterwards, Watkins said there will be refreshments at the Gazebo for participants.
