Clarkesville Mayor Dies of Gunshot Wound

In Habersham County, Clarkesville Mayor Terry Green has died after being treated for a gunshot wound.

According to a report in the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Green was shot Sunday night in what Clarkesville Police investigators say may have been part of a domestic incident.

Green survived the gunshot initially and was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center for treatment where he died overnight.

Clarkesville Police Chief Brad Barrett told the Northeast Georgian his office received a call about 7p Sunday night about a shooting at a home on Asbury St.

When officers arrived, he said they found Green lying on the floor with a gunshot wound to the head.

Chief Barrett said it is not clear yet whether the gunshot was a result of the domestic dispute or was self-inflicted.

He said they have called in the GBI to assist in the investigation to determine how the gunshot wound was sustained.
So far, Barrett said they have no suspects.
Green, an area physician, had been mayor Clarkesville since 2005.
