City of Lavonia Works with GMRC to Review Human Resources Practices

The City of Lavonia is reviewing how to improve its Human Resources Department structure.

At their meeting last week, City Mayor Courtney Umbehant recommended the City work with the Georgia Mountains Regional Commission.

Cost to the City the Mayor said would be about $4,500 and the review he said would take about four months to complete.

City Manager Charles Cawthon said the goal is to find out if the HR Department is operating efficiently compared to other municipalities.

Cawthon noted that right now there is no formal HR Department head but the duties are carried out by himself, the City Clerk, and the newly hired Assistant City Manager.

After hearing from the Mayor and City Manager, the City Council voted to enter into a contract with GMRC for a review of their Human Resources Dept.
