City of Lavonia Amending Golf Cart Ordinance

The City of Lavonia is revamping its golf cart ordinance to allow them for use by anyone with a permit.

At their meeting last week, City Manager Charles Cawthon recommended the amendment.

Under the current ordinance, only those age 55 and over are allowed to use a golf cart inside the city limits.

Cawthon recommended eliminating the requirement and opening the ordinance up to anyone who has a permit. Permits are obtained through the Lavonia Police Department.

The new ordinance would allow anyone age 16 and over with a valid driver’s license to obtain a permit to operate a golf cart.

After hearing from Cawthon the City Council voted to approve the amendment. It will now need two more readings before it becomes law.
