Citizens Lose Appeal of Zoning Change for Troy Construction

The Franklin County Board of Commissioners has turned down an appeal by some citizens to overturn their decision to grant a rezoning request for Troy Construction, LLC.

At an appeals hearing Tuesday evening, the Board voted 3-1 to uphold their November decision to change the zoning of 15 acres on Neal Road from Ag Intensive to Light Industrial, with Commissioner Ryan Swails voting against.

In November, Commissioners voted to approve Troy Construction LLC’s request to rezone the acreage, which sits just inside the Franklin County line along I-85. The company is using the property to store construction equipment and machinery.

People living on and near Neal Road in Franklin County voiced their opposition in November, citing the amount of truck traffic it would cause.  Others worried about the safety of their children playing outside.

Those same concerns were raised again by citizens Tuesday evening along with statements from one citizen that the 15 acres are actually in neighboring Banks County.

After hearing from both sides, the Board took a recess to assess the documents provided by each group. After reconvening, Commissioners, without further comment, voted to uphold their original decision.
