Chuck Holland Named Head Football Coach of FCHS Lions

The Franklin County Board of Education has named Chuck Holland as the new Senior Football Coach for Franklin County High School.

Acting School Superintendent Chuck Colquitt made the announcement at the Board of Education meeting Tuesday evening.

The hiring of a new head football coach for the high school was one of the first tasks for new Athletic Director Clay Moore.

Moore worked with Colquitt and incoming School Superintendent Melanie Burton-Brown to find a new head coach.

Applications were received from early December through the end of January.

Moore recently told WLHR News they had received a lot of applications from all over but Colquitt said Tuesday they had been able to narrow down the candidates to two finalists.

“We had a number of applicants and we narrowed it down to the best we thought we had and we submitted two names to Ms Melanie Burton-Brown,” he explained. “And she talked to the two candidates and she selected Chuck Holland. I think it’s a great fit. He’ll do a great job. He’s a hometown boy. He knows our kids. He knows what Franklin County is about and we expect big things.”

Holland has been serving as the head coach for Football and Track at the Franklin County Middle School for the past two years. Like Moore, Holland is a lifelong Franklin County resident and Lions allum.

“I’m extremely excited. I’ve told people and it kind of sounds cliche and even corny but this truly is my dream job. I’ve had the privilege of serving the Franklin County community even going back to my years as Youth Director. Starting out in 2006, I spent eight years at the Middle School. I also spent three at the high school as Assistant Coach. So it truly is a dream job,” he said Thursday.

Spring training Holland said will begin in late April/early May.

The High School Lions had a tough season last year and as the new head coach, Holland said his priority will be to get the team back to basics when they meet to begin their training.

“I’m an old-school type of guy when it comes to things. So, I’m big on fundamentals; just starting with the fundamentals of football; just having guys come out to the practice field with the intention of working hard and getting better. I feel like once you can establish that and do that, the results will eventually come on the field on Friday nights. So that’s my focus this spring, just trying to build up that mindset of hard work and practice is important. That’s where we get better as individuals and as a team,” he explained.

You can hear more from Holland this Sunday on Community Forum which airs at 12:05p here on Lake Hartwell Radio.
